What happens when you unlock an article

Some articles on this blog are members-only. To read them, you fill in the form below the teaser. What gets stored:

  • your email address (required),
  • your name, company and the topic you’re interested in, if you fill them in,
  • which article you unlocked first, and when you agreed to this policy.

Why: to give you access, to block access for addresses that abuse it, and so I know who reads this blog and what to write about next. The legal basis is your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR). I don’t send newsletters, I don’t sell or share your data, and your IP address isn’t stored with it.

Where: in a Cloudflare Workers KV store (Cloudflare, Inc., under Cloudflare’s data processing agreement, which includes the EU standard contractual clauses). Only I have access.

For how long: until you withdraw your consent or ask me to delete it.

Cookie: after the unlock, your browser gets a cookie named premium_access. It contains your email address and an expiry date, signed so it can’t be forged. It’s only used to check your access and expires after 180 days. It is technically necessary for the feature you asked for.

Your rights

You can ask what I’ve stored about you, have it corrected or deleted, and withdraw your consent at any time. A mail to kuebelroberttech@googlemail.com is enough. You can also complain to a data protection authority.

Hosting and statistics

The site is served by GitHub Pages (GitHub, Inc.) through Cloudflare (Cloudflare, Inc.). Both process technical access data such as your IP address to deliver the pages. Visitor counts come from GoatCounter, which doesn’t use cookies and doesn’t store personal data.
